Pet Simulator — Lead Developer
Lead developer across Pet Simulator X, Pet Simulator 99, Pets Go, and Steal a Pet at BIG Games. I worked across the full product — creative, design, and implementation — with my deepest contributions in systems architecture, backend infrastructure, internal tooling, and live operations at 1.5M+ concurrent player scale.
The story.
I was brought on to BIG Games as a lead developer after building Minion Simulator — a Roblox game that gained serious traction on the platform under LiftoffGames. The team saw what we could build and brought us on to run Pet Simulator X and build the next generation of titles.
Our team of six worked collaboratively across the product — everyone involved in creative planning and update design, with each person leaning into their strengths for execution. My strengths were in systems design, implementation, and live operations. Over nearly four years of weekly updates, I built the infrastructure that kept the game running at scale:
Monetization & Revenue Systems
Designed and built the purchase infrastructure behind a franchise generating millions — in-game transactions, economy balancing, and merchandise integrations. Identified and resolved platform-level API gaps directly with Roblox's engineering team.
Backend Infrastructure
Built the API layer and database architecture serving 1.5M concurrent players across thousands of servers. Real-time data flows for every player action — hatching, trading, purchasing — all running on systems I designed.
Anti-Cheat & Economy Integrity
Built exploit detection, dupe monitoring, and economy surveillance systems. Developed forensic tooling to trace exploitation networks across millions of trades. Discovered a fundamental correctness issue in Roblox's DataStore write semantics that I later wrote about publicly.
Observability & Analytics
Error aggregation across thousands of distributed servers, game health monitoring with anomaly detection, and a full analytics platform I built and maintained across multiple titles.
Internal operations platform.
I designed and built the team's internal operations platform from scratch. It became the primary tool used daily to run the game — covering player administration, economy monitoring, error diagnostics, trade analysis, and community management. Everything the team needed to operate a live product at 1.5M CCU, in one place.
Brand partnerships
As part of the team, I contributed to the product that grew from a Roblox game into a cross-platform brand with partnerships including SpongeBob/Nickelodeon, McDonald's Happy Meals, Target and Walmart retail merchandise, and a Roblox Developer Conference Innovation Award.
Update catalog
Every update shipped across the Pet Simulator franchise. 134 total updates across three live-service titles, each designed, built, and shipped on a weekly cadence.
